Obituary of Dean K Rivers
SUNRISE
Dean Kevin Rivers, a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a cousin, a dear friend and most importantly a dedicated and beloved father was born on June 19, 1976, to the dearly departed Dean Kevin Rivers Sr and Edith Wilson who gave him a bonus father (Timothy Keitt) who he affectionately called Pop-Pop. Dean was the little brother to Kevin Wilson and the big brother to Maurice “Buttah” Jackson.
“THE LEGEND”
Dean was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He attended William Penn high School which he completed and received his diploma with childhood friends Darryl Hodge and Manuel Perez. He was even known then as a fashion icon and pretty boy. His love for music led him to church where he sung his heart out to God while attending Ford Memorial.
Dean’s passion, talent and creativity was shown through the way he demanded attention when he entered a room with his amazing smile, his personality and wit, the fashion pieces he so boldly put together and executed, the way he loved his mother, family, and friends.
Dean spent the last 10 years working for AmeriHealth Caritas as a Senior Claims Representative. When he wasn’t at work, he enjoyed working out, taking selfies, singing, dancing, drinking, partying, and socializing anyway possible. Dean loved to watch Real Housewives, Franchise, Game of Thrones, The Chi, Horror Movies, the original Fire Starter and Fixer Upper. His favorite foods were pasta, wings, Thai food, and catfish & grits. His favorite foods to cook were spaghetti and anything including salmon.
Dean was blessed by God with a beautiful daughter Maia La ’Tiara Hawkins-Rivers who he day in and day out pushed to be her best in all she did, motivated her to reach until she couldn’t reach anymore, supported whatever she did even if he didn’t agree and to know that the only limits, she had were the ones she never attempted. He from birth bought her Valentine’s Day gifts and never missed a year. He introduced her to all her favorite movies “Little Shop of Horror,” “Coyote Ugly,” & “Gang of Roses”. He made her breakfast in bed, took her to get manicures and pedicures, gave her flowers just because and showed her how a woman should be treated. He was there when she took her first breathe and God allowed her to be there when he took his last.
Dean was proceeded by his grandmother (Bernitha Wilson), grandfather (Curtis Wilson Sr.), uncles (Curtis Wilson Jr., Anthony Wilson, and Robert Wilson). He leaves behind his grandfather (Ronnie Corbitt), aunts (Diana Agee, Dovitta Wilson and Gloria Thomas-Reason), uncles (Paul Wilson and Lawrence Reason). He also leaves behind nieces (Keonte, Analise, Ivelise, Kellisa, Daniya, Iyara, & Jaala), nephew (Kevin Jr.), two great nieces, four great nephews, multiple God children, and many favorite cousins and great cousins. His extended family consists of his forever partner (William Tolbert), lifelong friends (Shaun Johns, Nadir Witherspoon, Dennis Mason, James Knight, Antar Bush, Dana Robinson & Marc Britt)
SUNSET
On Sunday January 22, 2023, at the age of 46 Dean turned in his Red Bottoms and Gucci for angel wings and clouds. He fought until the very end and even then, God took him peacefully and he went with grace. Through all this pain may we use this hurt to live as Dean did. Remember to live like tomorrow isn’t promised and make today better than yesterday.
