Obituary of Daisy Brawner

Daisy Brawner The Path She Walked……………………… Daisy Brown-Brawner was born to the late William Brown and Maryland Tillman-Brown on August 18, 1932 in Sharon Hill, PA. Daisy was educated in the Sharon Hill School System. Life gave Daisy an opportunity to explore. She lived in Delaware for a short time, but decided to plant her roots in Philadelphia, PA. Daisy was a true example of being “born with class”. She embodied both beauty and brains. Daisy was a triple threat. She was articulate, educated and beautiful. Always fashionably dressed, she was a head turner. She was truly a lady. Daisy was blessed with five beautiful children. All of whom she adored. She taught them all strength, tenacity and the values of family. She put them all through Catholic School and supported them in their respective career journeys. Daisy loved the finer things in life. She passed this on to her children as well. She taught them proper etiquette, work ethic, quality over quantity and gave them tough love. She did this by leading by example. Daisy always strived for more in life. A few years after having her first child, Marlena, Daisy made a commitment to continue her education. She enrolled in Temple University on a scholarship and received her Master’s Degree in Dietetics. This was during a time when black women rarely received such an honor. Daisy has always been a strong and independent woman. She purchased her own home for her and her family. She was the first African American and woman to hold the position of Head of Dietetics at the Hospital of Osteopathic Medicine. She was also the first woman to obtain her position as Head of Dietary at Englis House. She concluded her career as Head of Dietary at Methodist Hospital. Gardening was one of the things Daisy enjoyed most. She had one of the most beautiful gardens. Her home, both inside and out, was always surrounded by flowers. She also enjoyed the art of fine cuisine. She would make some of the most exquisite dishes. She believed in expanding the palette for herself and that of her children. When life threw Daisy a curveball with her health, she went on to live with her son Marcell and daughter Marlena. This began a new journey for her on her life’s path. She was able to relax and enjoy her family. Holidays were very important to Daisy. Especially, Christmas, which was deemed “Nanny’s Holiday”. Everyone would make sure they were home to enjoy this festive holiday with her and did their best to make it extra special for her. For almost 30 years, her daughter Marlena was her primary caregiver. Going above and beyond to make sure that all of her needs were met. In 2018, Daisy had two major health scares. Due to this, Daisy became a resident at Simpson House, where they took great care of her health and mental status. She made many friends and was well loved by the staff and other residents. She was later moved to Bala Nursing Facility, where the staff loved her there as well. Everyone loved “Miss Daisy”. The time spent at these facilities allowed her the opportunity to continue to build upon her relationship with her granddaughter Monique. Her “Sugar Babe” as she affectionately called her. Throughout all that Daisy went through with her health, she always had a smile on her face and never complained. Her requests were simple and easily met. She loved being spoiled by her family. She would light up when you walked into her room, especially if you had a bag in your hand. She loved receiving her visitation treats. When food was requested, it had to be “Tiny’s” food. She would devour all of her delicacies from home. On Monday, May 13, 2024, Daisy peacefully went home to be with the Lord with her “Sugar Babe” by her side. Daisy was preceded in death by her brothers, Casper, Sonny, James and Kenneth. Her sons Clayton (Kathy) and Zane and her daughter Wilma “Lady”. She leaves to mourn her daughters Marlena “Tiny” Thomas and Nadine Boyd; daughter in-love Kathy; seven grandchildren Monique (Kyle), Alicia, Aqullia (Dwayne “Sheriff”), Marcell, Aaron, Zane and Alicia; six great grandchildren Devon, Kiana, Demetrius, Damir, Milan and Nasheed; eight great-great grandchildren Keion, Khalil, Karter, Willie, Zara, Alana, Kaleb and Kayla.
