Obituary of Deacon Alford Terry Sr.
On Saturday, April 11, 2015 God in His infinite love and wisdom said, “well done to his servant, ALFORD TERRY, SR.,” and called him home to be with Him in eternal glory.
Alford Terry, Sr. affectionately known as “Terry” was born to the late Gary and Gertrude Terry on December 5, 1940 in Clio, South Carolina. He was the youngest of four children; his sisters, Bernice and Susie May and brother, Gary all preceded him in death.
Alford was educated in the Marlboro County School District, where he attended Lincoln High School. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at New Zion A.M.E. Church in Clio, South Carolina.
Following in the footsteps of his older brother, Gary, Alford relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the late 1960s. It was during this time that he met his sister-in-law’s sister, Lillie. Alford and Lillie’s relationship grew and they were married on September 25, 1965. From this union, four children were born: Angela, Lakesha, Alford, Jr. and Paula, his oldest daughter who preceded him in death. Alford was committed to his wife and family. He prioritized them under God and led his family as the Bible instructed him to do.
While in Philadelphia, Alford held many jobs such as retail manager, Septa bus driver, project manager, and retired after twenty years at Chimicles and Tikelis Law Firm.
Alford joined Enon Baptist Church and was baptized under the late Pastor W.E. Cook. He served at Enon for many years as a dedicated trustee. He later became a founding member of his new church home, Greater Enon Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Larry Washington. Alford diligently served his church in many capacities such as trustee, choir member, and usher. Alford was called to deaconship under the leadership of Reverend William Washington on July 15, 2001. He fully walked in his call as described in 1st Timothy 3. He served at Greater Enon up until his death, under the leadership of Pastor Michael Robinson. He faithfully communed, visited, and prayed for the sick. He would often share the Word of God and was dedicated to the spiritual well being of the congregants of his church.
I only had one husband
Alford had a true love for the Lord and he spent many nights studying as He was patient, kind and true; well as researching the Bible. His life was a great example of how a Christian
No other person in all the world
should truly live. He was known for his candor, outspokenness, giving Will ever be the same as you. generous spirit and the way he answered questions in parables. He always had When other people forsake me, a smile on his face and a song in his heart. For those who knew Alford well, To my husband I will return,
their lives will never be the same. For all his loving kindness,
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paula; in-laws, Arthur, John,Oliver and Henry;
